| tried pushing him away, but he wouldn't budge an inch, his eyes locked on mine. “You're a scumbag. Let me
go.”
“Callwhatever you want - you've earned that right. But we're finishing this conversation first.”
| stopped struggling and met his gaze.
“Tellwhat else you're hiding from me,” he demanded, his expression dead serious.
“Even if | am hiding things, you have no right to know about them,” | shot back.
His eyes searched my face, and | had to look away when I felt my wolf stirring, wanting to get closer to
him.
He lowered his head to my level. When | tried to turn away, his nose brushed against mine. Memories flooded
back - memories of when I'd desperately wanted his closeness. | squeezed my eyes shut, remembering all the
pain he'd caused.
“A man like you never changes. You never missed a chance to humiliate me,” | said bitterly.
He let out a heavy breath. “I'm sorry,” he said softly.
| froze, slowly turning to face him. We were inches apart, his breath warm on my face. That familiar cologne I'd
missed so much since leaving him filled my senses.
But none of it could heal my broken heart. | gave him an empty look. “Sorry for what?”
He looked away. “I shouldn't have accused you like that. But you should have toldthe truth.”
| let out a harsh laugh. “Didn't | tell you that you were wrong about me?”

Recognition flashed in Kane's eyes as he remembered that day. His eyes widened before he quickly masked his
expression, squeezing them shut.
For the first time, | saw genuine guilt in him.
But | knew better- he only felt guilty now because he knew my family’s status. He just didn’t want to make
enemies of my family.
“Don’t worry about my family,” | said coolly. “I'm a professional. | won't let my personal feelings affect business
with your pack.”
Kane actually chuckled, catchingoff guard. He looked straight at me. “You think Alpha Kane needs to be in
anyone's good graces?”
| smirked. “Didn't | already break your heart by stealing those projects from you? Focus on your work, Alpha.
Who knows? | might shift my focus from your company to your pack next.”

“His sister cheated on her marriage and got pregnant with another man’s babies. Oh wait - wasn't it his best
friend?”
| gripped my dress, trying to contain my rage. “Yeah, you're right. It was his best friend. | slept with his
best friend when | was still-"
“Selene!”
His shout cutoff as he grabbed my throat. His eyes blazed red - his wolf taking control. My own wolf growled
in response, but | kept her contained as | stared into those crimson eyes. He'd never shownhis wolf before;
I'd never seen this side of him.
“When | was supposedly wolfless, you thought | was worthless. I'll never forget those days, Kane.”
His grip on my throat loosened, though his hand remained. He closed his eyes, fighting for control over his wolf.
When he opened them again, they were back to their normal black.
“I heard your parents approved Ruby as their future daughter-in-law,” | said. “Why don’t you marry her and
have your own kids? Just leavealone.”
| grabbed his hand that was still at my throat. It didn’t take much effort to remove it - he wasn’t really fighting
He stepped aside, lettingpass. As | glanced back at him one last time, he seemed lost in thought, standing
there alone in the moonlight.
