| watched her eyes widen - she felt the mate bond too.

shocked her.
While | was trying to process this, her scent hit- sweet strawberries. My mate's scent!
Dazed, | asked my wolf, “Is she really my mate?”
He only responded by trying to take control.
| shoved him back and locked him away, turning my attention to Selene, who was staring atin shock.
Was she happy to finally haveback? She must be thrilled. Did she chere just to get my attention? Had
she used my nto get in? Otherwise, who would let her into such an important event?
Questions were racing through my mind. Even if she had used my name, | didn’t care.
What | really wanted to know was where she'd been. Why hadn’t she cback until now?
| watched as she took deep breaths, clearly trying to compose herself. Her face shifted back to a mask of
indifference.

It wasn’t just about the mate bond anymore - | needed to understand what was going on in this woman's head.
“I earned my place at this conference. Why are you so surprised?” She replied coolly.
Her words hung in the air like a challenge, leavingconfused and uncertain.
| was stunned by how different she was from the timid woman | used to know. Everyone else cowered when |
spoke to them, but here she was, lookingstraight in the eyes without a hint of fear.
‘Is this really the sSelene?’
Her response irritated me, so | pressed further.
“Which pack have you been with all these years?”
“Alpha Kane, | no longer have any connection to the Nightfall Pack. | hope that’s enough to end your
interrogation,” she replied with pride.
Her use of my title, like | was a stranger, made my blood boil.
| glared at her. She looked away, scanning the hallway as if searching for someone.
“Who could she possibly be looking for when I'm right here?” | thought angrily.
Her dismissal infuriated me. How dare she ignore me? She had no right. Where did this newfound
confidence cfrom?
| noticed others watching us with confused looks. They didn’t know who Selene was - I'd never brought

She seemed ready to leave with whoever she'd spotted. My anger was reaching its limit.

| grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer. She looked startled. “What are you doing?” she demanded.
Instead of answering, | started pulling her in another direction.
“Alpha Kane, let go of my hand,” she said with forced coldness, which I ignored.
When she realized | wasn't listening, she grabbed my arm. | thought she might say she was here for me, that we
could talk things out.
Instead, she whispered, “I don’t want to cause a scene here. It would be better if you letgo. People are
watching.”
| scoffed. Was she trying to threaten me? Damage my reputation? What could she possibly do to me?

| dragged her into a private room.
Once inside, | spun around and pulled her against me.
Her soft body pressed against mine.
Looking into her eyes, it hit me. After all these years, | finally realized just how much I'd missed her.
Her mate scent was drivingcrazy, making it almost impossible not to mark her as mine right then and there.
“Letgo,” she said, pushing against my chest.
| stepped back, scowling as | growled,
“Let you go?”
My anger flared again. Even after feeling the mate bond, she was still pushingaway?
| gripped her arms. “What gives you the right to walk in and out of my life whenever you want?”
Selene frowned. “We've been divorced for five years. Show srespect.”
| couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
“Respect? Seems you've forgotten how you druggedto sleep withbefore.” For the first tin five years,
| completely lost my cool.
