Anxiously, | rubbed my forehead.
“Kane Thome, | swear | despise you,” | muttered under my breath, frustration lacing my tone.
He had orchestrated this entire schjust to ruin my reputation.

she wouldn't hear about it?
That thought madesmirk. Without hesitation, | dialed a number.
“Hello?” A young woman's voice cthrough the line.
“Where's your boss? Give her the phone.”
She hesitated, clearly taken aback. “Who are you?”
“She knows me.”
A brief silence followed before | heard the voice | had been waiting for.
“Who's this?”
“Your shameless boyfriend's ex-wife,” | answered, grinning as if she could see me.
Ruby was silent for a moment, likely trying to figure out how | had gotten her maid’s number.
That day, when she humiliatedin front of Kane and his parents, | had taken note of the number she used to
text me. It had belonged to his maid. Turns out, she wasn’t as smart as | had assumed-she hadn't even bothered
to change the number.
Not that | had told Kane about it. They deserved each other.
“Why are you calling me?” Ruby finally asked, breaking the silence.
“Guess you haven't seen the latest headlines yet.

“What headlines?”
“The ones about your boyfriend getting cozy with another woman.”
“That's ridiculous! Why would he do that?”
| chuckled mockingly. “Well, he said he wanted to make the news with me.”
“Impossible! Kane would never-especially not after the re- she abruptly stopped.
| narrowed my eyes. “Re...? What report are you talking about, Ruby?”
“N-Nothing”
A cold realization settled in my chest. “Wait a second... are you talking about the DNA test that someone
tampered with? Letguess-was it you?”
“Selene, | can’t believe you'd accuseof something like that! You have children with another man. Stop trying
to twist the truth!”
Her words ignited my fury. “And yet, your so-called devoted boyfriend ctolast night. Maybe you're not
enough for him. Maybe that’s why he wants more.”

“How dare you!” she hissed.

“Ask your boyfriend that question,” | shot back. “Here's sadvice-lock him down as soon as you can. Because
if | decide to take him back, you know | could.”
“Don’t you dar-"
| hung up before she could finish. As | replayed the conversation in my head, | couldn't help but scoff.
| had no intention of ever being with Kane again. | had only said those things to shake Ruby up.
She would undoubtedly use emotional manipulation to keep Kane under her thumb, which was exactly what |
wanted. With any luck, this would ensure that Kane never cnearagain.
Tossing my phone onto the bed, | made my way to the bathroom to take a shower. | saw no reason to deal with
the news myself. | had full confidence that Ruby would take care of it.
After
my
shower, | picked out a beautiful white dress. | planned to explore the pack today, so | needed to look
presentable.
As | applied my makeup, my eyes lingered on my reflection, particularly on the purple mark on my neck. It was a
reminder of that man.
Shaking off the thought, | reached out to both Axel and Rachel.
Axel was the one who suggested we grab breakfast first, so we headed to the restaurant inside the
hotel.
“Where did he take you? Why didn’t you tellabout it last night?” Axel asked, his voice laced with
irritation.
| handled it. Don’t worry,” | replied, focusing on my food.
“Magnus said he’s going to deal with him this time.”
| paused, looking up. “You told Magnus?”
“No, he saw the news himself.”
| lowered my gaze and gave a slight nod.
“There was no stopping this conflict now. Kane had started it himself. At this point, | didn’t care how my brother
handled him."
Deciding not to dwell on Kane any further, | continued eating in silence.

Axel mentioned that he had already sent all the managers back to the Iron Crown Pack early in the morning
“Are you sure you still want to explore the pack today?” he asked again.
| knew why he was asking. He assumed | was upset because of Kane.
| glanced at Rachel, who had her head lowered. Reaching over, | patted her hand.
“Yeah, | want to.” | assured him.
Rachel gavea small shake of her head, silently telling| didn’t have to push myself. In response, | forced a
reassuring smile.
Thanks to Axel’s arrangements, we secured a car. Just as we were getting in, Axel’s phone rang-it

As Axel listened, his expression shifted to one of surprise.
“I'll be there soon. Don’t worry,” he said before hanging up.

Axel met my gaze and said, “Something's cup. | need to return to the Iron Crown Pack immediately.”
“What happened? Is everyone alright?”
“Everything's fine,” he reassured me. “We have a pack meeting tomorrow morning, and Magnus needsthere.
| won't be able to join you for this trip.”
